I hope you have over $100,000 to dump on this. Otherwise, just buy the dvd collection that has all of the issues scanned onto disks for about $40.

ALWAYS start with the most valuable and most collectible books when trying to complete a run of comics. That would be Spider-Man #1 or Amazing Fantasy #14. AM#14 is the FIRST Spider-Man.

The reasoning is that those expensive and valuable books will keep going up in value. The longer you wait to buy the most expensive books, the more money you would spend to acquire them. The cheap and easy to get Spider-Man books will still be cheap and easy to get 10 years from now, but that Spider-Man #1 will be $5000 more.

Also, if you have a nice collection of the most valuable books, it will spur you to fill in the "gaps" in the collection.

The best Spider-Man books to get after #1 and AF#14 are ASM#14 - first Green Goblin, ASM#50 - first Kingpin, ASM #129 - first Punisher, ASM#300 first Venom, and get the Death of Gwen Stacy issues, i forget the numbers for those though. Just that small collection of books including the ASM#1 and AF#14 will set you back at least $12,000.00

If you just want a cheap collection of the books to read, buy a set of Essential Marvel Spider-Man.

Good Luck collecting!

I would suggest you start with issue 263. I believe this was the issue where Venow was unveiled. I would also call it the beginnig of the modern era in Spider-Man comics as all the events that have taken place since then are still relevant, even the clone saga to some extent.
