This is honestly what I think happens..
I think it'll probably be like falling asleep, only you don't dream or anything...you're just, dead. You don't know it, and it's like you're not here, because you're dead....lol, if that makes sence.
Maybe there's a white light or something? Who knows.

some people will say
death is the end and thats it
some will talk of heaven or hell
i dont believe either of these
its important to realize these are not
the only alternatives
of course no one knows for sure
i personally dont think that consciousness
is the result of our bodies
but the other way around
thats why theyre put together so well
and even science
says that energy is neither created or destroyed
its also like asking what happened before you were born
like someone said the soul has no memory
because the memory comes from the brain
there is another more fundamental awareness though
deeper than thoughts
i think alot of the misunderstandings
come from the false assumption
that souls are individual things
instead of one
if all souls are one awareness
then they dont really go or come
they just animate bodies
like radios picking up a signal
i had an experience once
when i thought i was going to die
and i felt such peace
like i never knew before
i was in some state that didnt judge good or bad
science only believes in what it can observe
what is measurable by the frontal lobes
they dont acknowledge anything else

There is no soul. The concept of the soul was invented by ancient societies who did not know about how the brain functions. Your thoughts about death and musings about what happens to "you" after you die all occur within the brain. Death is now essentially defined as the cessation of brain function.
With all this in mind, it's pretty clear to me that death is the end of us. Your door and window metaphor is not applicable to death. In your metaphor, there is still someone that can act, that can shut a door and notice an open window, or perhaps open the window. With death, the actor dies and with the death of the actor, the play is over.

After you die, life goes on. The Earth still rotates on its axis once every twenty four hours and doesn't even notice that you are no longer living on it.
"... what really happens when you die" is that since you will no longer exist as a person, it will not matter to you. First your brain will cease to function and you will not be conscious any more. Then quickly your physical tissues will start to decay.
If you want to talk about the imaginary concept of life after death, then you should logically likewise talk about life before birth. Both exist only in your imagination. Great material for literature, fantasy and religion, but it is not sane to mistake them for reality.
Sanity consists of dealing with things as they really are. You were born. You will die. All the life you will ever have is what comes in between those points in time. Deal with it.
Make the best of what you have got while you have it. Enjoy the ride on life's merry-go-round, and accept that when the music stops your ride is over. It's good, and it doesn't need to be forever to be good.

Life is so stressful and always moving to me it would seem after all the struggle of just trying to survive while you are alive and all the pressure; the afterlife, if you have done your part on this earth to help make it better in some way for your self as well as someone else your reward is peace. I believe the true reward of death is peace. No more worries, pressures, time limits, gotta be here or there; just eternal peace and rest. Tranquility that only God the Father can give

There are so many answers regarding different beliefs present in the world. It is in fact like shutting a window and opening a lots of doors. The real life will start after death. And that depends on what one has done in this world i.e. what have you sewn you will reap.

Since nobody came back from the dead, it is impossible to reveal the moment after death. I came across the young and old who slept through the night, and not wake up the following morning. Due to cardiac failure, I guess, and surprisingly the young are afflicted with the old-man sickness that often meant for the elderly.
Death is like sleeping through the night and not wake up at all. The deceased will not know the difference. Reference to the example, those people who were dead due to cardiac failure, never did experience pain or restlessness, ---- they merely passed over. Those who came around, but in hospital were surprised that they had cardiac failure.
I reiterate----“Death is merely a long sleep with no chance of waking up”

Life And Death is almost the same thing!
I believe that souls never die... They just go from a body to another. When a body dies, when it stops working, the soul of this body goes to another body but doesn't remember anything about its previous life, because memory comes out of the human brain, and the soul now has a new brain...
Listen to gt_for_music's song "Life And Death" and you'll understand!...

Well I'm a strong believer that when you die the only thing that happens to you is unfortunattely rotting in the ground, perhaps providing good fertiliser for the grass that grows above your grave. None of this heaven or hell nonsense, when you die you die, no afterlife in cloud land or fire land, only visits from flesh eating insects that will speed your rotting process.
See you in the afterlife... Not!

Honestly?
It all depends on what you think. No one can answer that question, as Death is the great unknown.
Philosophers, religious leaders, everyday joes have all tried to explain it.
My own personal view is...nothing. end of story. Closed door.
You may believe somehting else...it is true that everyone will believe something different.

Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.
While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.
Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.
I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.
I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.
I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.
Your brother don
