I work for an airline and I can book flights for free that are operated by United. BUT, how big are the chances that a seat is available on those terms. Anybody any experience on how full the flights are around 3/4 pm on a friday? Otherwise I have to take the bus or train.

The only people who can afford to use SFO-Sacramento flights on a regular basis are lawmakers, lawyers, lobbyists, and miscellaneous government staffers.

That means that if the legislature is in session, the most busy day will be Thursdays (when Bay Area people return from the Capitol) and Mondays (when they go back to Sacramento for work). So, I think you'll be fine.

Are you serious? Sac is only like 70 miles east from SF. You are talking abut a 40 min flight. Amtrak from the Ferry building to sacramento is $21 one way. And I would say the better bet that driving or flying.

Only your airline can tell you what the availablity is for the free flights that you refer to. Virtually nobody flies from SFO to Sac. We all drive. Unless it is being used as a stop over for somewhere else, most of us do not make this fight.
