I strongly recommend you check-in online at www.cathaypacific.com before you go to the airport. If you're an e-ticket holder, you can check-in online 24 hours prior to your scheduled departure time. They have a special counter at the airport for passengers who are checked-in online already. All you do is drop off your luggage. The line is usually as short as the First/Business class check-in lines. I still recommend that you arrive 2-3 hours before the scheduled departure time because there could be long lines at the customs and security.
If you're not planning on using online check-in, it is always better to arrive earlier (3 hours). Cathay Pacific staff are very efficient and although there will be long lines, they should move quite quickly. They're very smart and will open as many check-in counters as they can to accomodate passengers when queues are long. They wouldn't want everyone to arrive late and the flight to be delayed right?
Again, I strongly recommend checking-in online because unlike most airlines (where online checked-in passengers line up with the unchecked-in passengers), they actually have a special counter at the airport for people who are checked-in online. The line for online checked-in passengers are very short (about 2-3 passengers waiting in line).
Enjoy your trip on Cathay Pacific!

Most airlines would advise you to be at the international airport in any part of the world at least 3 hours. Depending on the country of destination, there could be very strict measures being done (due to terrorism fears) not only at the check-in area but also at the departure gate so it would be wise to be early to be able to go through and overcome all these hassles early.
Aside from these you should also take into consideration the number of people flying out on that day as they could also cause long queues to the counters to pay the Airport tax, and also to clear the Immigration desks.
And if you are an OFW, there will be other desks to go to like POEA.
So, some words of wisdom... just be early.

I was in NAIA last December 2006, my flight was not with CP but with Japan airlines. I arrived about 90 minutes before my flight's departure and it took me 20-30 minutes to get my boarding pass and then five minutes to clear inmigration and security check points. I hope this can help.

According to airports around the world, you should show up 3 hours prior to flight. Usually, the counters open up 2 hours prior, and the whole process takes 1 to 1.5 hours. Boarding takes place half hour before takeoff.
Enjoy.

it normally depends if there would be too many passengers that day. but you're suppose to be there 2 hours before so you could have ample time to settle everything. the long and slow queues are on the immigration. since they have to check thouroughly on your documents. but ours took only an hour since we've got kids.
