Can I get to Sacremento by train or bus directly from the int. airport of SFO? Or do I have to go via SFO citycenter? I don't have a car and the airfares are way too expensive. Suggestions?

BY TRAIN:

San Francisco's subway system will get you to Downtown or the East Bay (from SFO International). However, it doesn't go all the way to Sacramento.

You'll need to transfer from your Dublin/Pleasanton bound train to a Richmond bound train (Fare: $6.15). Once in Richmond, you'll have to board Amtrak's Capitol Corridor (Fare: $16.00)

BY TRAIN/BUS:

Take the subway from the airport (just like above), but get off at Montgomery Street station in Downtown San Francisco (Fare: $5.15). Walk to the bus terminal a few blocks away at 1st and Mission. Board a Greyhound bus for Sacramento (Fare: $15.50).

You'll save a little money with the bus, but I wouldn't recommend it. Getting lost in Downtown San Francisco with luggage is no fun. And the trains are far more comfortable, as well as a bit faster.

You can make the trip by public transit but it will require a few connections. Starting from SFO you can take the BART train to the El Cerrito Del Norte station in the east bay, from there take Vallejo Bay Link route 91 or 92 to Fairfield transit center and from there the Fairfield Transit route 30 continues into Sacramento. The total cost for this routing will be about $10 overall. This above routing can only be done on a weekday. If your travel plans require a weekend trip, I would take BART from the airport to Richmond station and connect to a Amtrak capitol corridor train from there. Using the Amtrak routing would cost about $25 overall. Good luck!

From SFO international airport take the bart train inbound to san francisco downtown and get off on embarcadero station. Walk over to 1 st and harrison and right across the street is the bus depot so you can catch the grey hound. Or if you want to take the amtrak then instead of getting off at embarcadero station continue staying on the bart train and go towards the east bay and get off on emeryville. The amtrak station is very close to the bart station. If you want to fly there you can fly on united express operated by skywest airlines. I work for the airlines.

Take BART to Richmond, the transfer to Amtrak at the same station, it will take you right to downtown Sacramento. I use this service about once a month to visit my parents who live in San Carlos.

It costs less than a tank of gas.
