Middle Eastern Culture/History?

Question

Why is it that so many people in the west have forgotten or don't know what the Middle Eastern culture and history has given us? It saddens me deeply. Also, people tend to believe JUNK from the media about anything including the middle-east. They refuse to go and see what it's like for THEMSELVES.

No offence but some people on yahoo!answers are so ignorant. Go and read History and get the facts right.

I've been there and I'm not in the least bit impressed with the culture however, the history is very rich and interesting to learn about.

People in the west tend not to like cultures we view as oppressive. An oppressive culture is one that makes the non adherents follow their religious rules and will not give the same respect. A good example is Saudi Arabia.

In the US, we arent taught much about middle eastern culture that is why.

Plenty of people from the West travel to the mid-East, I dont know what you are talking about but some people, me among them, would be afraid of traveling there. It is interesting that you blame those of us who are afraid for our fear and not the people posting videos on the internet of muslims cutting Westerners heads off while yelling Allah Akbar. They are the reason so many are afraid. If more people from yout part of the world denounced them and had demonstrations against them, like you did against some stupid cartoons, you could take back your image as normal people. Since you dont do this, the image so many get of middle easterners is they are bloody thirsty lunatics.
