i'm not of a community service person like volunteering for events or help out at a community centres..
its just not me .. i feel like if i cant help myself how can i help others?

The thing is majority of my friends are into this kind of things so when they ask me i will always refuse the offer and they will give me a disapproval look .i even told them i'm not a volunteer person .. sometimes i feel like and outcast because of this.
after an event lets say if we have a gathering .. they will talk about how the guys where about things that i totally be left out ..now i feel that they are into this things because they want to get a date .. not because they want to help people

am i wrong to feel this way

I'm a volunteer activist, and I think it's very appropriate for you to feel this way.

Volunteering is something that should be done if you feel that it is appropriate for you to be there. I work with several different projects, and when there are people there that feel "forced" or really don't want to be there, it affects the impact that the team can make.

You are correct, in that the goal is to make a difference and help others, but community work and volunteer projects are just one way to make a difference. Based upon your response, it appears that you already make a difference in other ways, like financial support, which is just as valuable to the community. Feel good about the impact that you make and the people that you help through your contributions.

It's not "wrong" not to do community work. Some people do it, some don't. It's definitely a good thing to spend resources on helping the community. For some, the resource is time and labor, for others it's money.

But you might want to look into what you believe about yourself. You say "i feel like if i cant help myself how can i help others?"

Maybe helping others is a way you can help yourself. There are a million ways to help others. Everyone can help others in one way or another. In the end, it may even help you get over whatever makes you feel like you can't help others.

Ultimately, you have to decide what's right for you. Just remember that if these are your friends, you might have a really good time doing this with them. There's no law saying you can't have fun while volunteering. There's also no law against falling in love while doing it. The end result is the same - people get helped.

Good luck however you decide.

No way! being involved in your own life is enough community work in its self. If you have kids maybe join the PTA or just help out in their classrooms every so often. If you still feel like you should be contributing to something than donate to a non-profit organization this not only gives back to the community but it will pay you back as a tax right off, unlike volunteering.

I'm not a volunteer in the community kind of person, either. There's nothing wrong with it. Some people are. Some people aren't.

Now that I'm older and have some spare cash, I donate to my favorite good works. For me that's the no-kill animal shelter, and it's a donation of food for the furries.

I'm not a volunteer person either, but that doesn't make me a bad person. I am a very good friend and do lots of good things for other people though it might not be in the form of community service. I dislike people who impose their own values on other people, and it seems like your friends are doing this. Just do your own thing.
