There is no mermaid. The sailors of the past had mistaken an aquatic mammal a mermaid. The reflection from the ocean due to the intense light had created realism for this mammal---- called dugong.
Truly, from afar this mammal resembles a mermaid with the barrel-shaped body, no hind limbs, flipper like forelimbs, and triangular tail.

I don't know if they really exist, but my mother showed me an old, authentic picture of a mermaid before. But the odd things were: one, she said it was found somewhere in the Middle East, and that place is mostly desert. Second, the mermaid's appearance was rather... unexpected. It wasn't your usual Ariel with the upper body part like those of a woman's and the lower part the tail of a fish. It was different because the upper part was that of a fish (yeah, it's head was like that of a fish) and the lower part of her body were legs, as in legs like that of a human. Weird, right? But my mom said it's true.

If I had actual proof that one existed I would not be on Yahoo Answers right now but somewhere far away on the island I just bought with the money I sold the proof for.

Nope!! Hopefully they never will either. It's the same thing with the Loch Ness Monster or Big Foot; should they find any of these creature, they would dissect them to death. I seriously hope you never find them or anything else as wonderful unless you are alone and can't prove it later. Good luck!!

I'm sure there is someone out there who can convince you of just about anything but it wouldn't be true.
