Gave you a star because your question is genuinely intriguing, but my answer is "no".

I also don't believe that Eamon de Valera was a traitor to Ireland. He agreed to partition under duress, plus if you knew anything about international politics and armed struggles, you'd know that you can't always get what you want so you settle for what you believe to be the next best solution.

The IRA murdered Michael Collins, I should remind you. I should also remind you that although Collins disagreed with Valera, he co-signed the partition agreement. Collins may have been a "freedom fighter", but he was a pragmatist. In this cruel world we need more pragmatists and fewer blowhards, IMHO.

Gerry Adams is also a pragmatist, who also has made the decision that comprimise is preferable to violence. But he is not the standard bearer of Collins. Gerry Adams, to my knowledge, never took up arms himself.

The reason Sinn Fein is now so popular in both Eire and NI is because they are the political alternative and are seen to be (and again in my opinion, are) reasonable.

I have read a lot about the IRA, and one fact which I found particularly interesting is the IRA killed more Catholics during the Troubles than Protestants. Also, did you know that IRA members were formally ex-communicated from the Catholic church by decree? I'm sure you must know that the IRA preferred civilian targets and that the vast majority of their victims were civilian non-combattants. Or maybe you don't know, because you choose not to educate yourself on the subject?

No.
At least I sincerely hope not, if you refer to social and societal matters.
As for the nation, are you aware that there is no real will in the Republic to get unity, no more than in a good part of 6-county Irish? People always want to stick to the status quo, and the result of the elections bears that out.
So even if Gerry Adams is trying to fill Michael Collins's boots, it will be an uphill struggle for many years to come.

NO, one was a freedom fighter, the other one (Adams) blew up innocent people, or at least the party he represents once did.
