Do you think that the search for more information moves us closer to ourselves (such as extended knowledge of biology or psychology providing a better understanding of the human, and physics providing a better understanding of our context),
or do we get too involved in the seeking itself and lose focus, moving further and further away from ourselves along the path?

Yes or No is not enough, guys, you mean "yes it moves us away" or "yes it moves us closer?"

Also please provide reasons for your answer.

that is the difference in seeking WHAT we are as opposed to seeking WHO we are

It moves us closer to ourselves if we have the right direction when we conducted the searching. It's like finding an address of a friend and you got the direction from a man who was drunk.
A direction given by a sane man who lives in that neighborhood for 50 yrs or so will get you to the right address. The right transportation, right communication and you being sane , speaking the same language, and you duplicating what was said accurately is needed also to ensure you will find what you're looking for.

The same is true with life!

find out who you are, what you want, your unique purpose, that's what everybody else is doing, you can't understand anything unless you understand and accept yourself. and yes i think the quest to uncover and understand every little detail takes us further away from our true self. life is sopposed to be good, enjoy it while it lasts.
