Hi, I am 16 years old and live in Nevada. I have a boyfriend that is 20 years of age who lives in California. I really like him alot. I tried visiting him over a weekend but my parents caught me and threaten to put him in jail. He bought me a plane ticket and i was going to stay at his house. I was wondering how big of a trouble he can get in and is it okay for me to still talk to him over the phone with out getting him in trouble? It wasn't like it was my first time visting him, he is not at all a danger to me... i had a chance to meet his family. I just don't want him to mess up his records because of me, so please tell me what is right to do and not to do.

I know him for over a year and a half, started going out for about four months.

im really clueless into what to do, please help. thanks

The age of consent in Nevada is 16?

That being said, there's a time and a place for everything and this certainly isn't it. You must be mad. Cut bait and run.

Go to the blackboard and write "find someone my own age" followed by "who lives in town and can take me to the prom".

While you're at it, give your parents a break, they want what is best for you. If you can't realize that and respect their actions and concerns - then your judgment skills need a little work and you should take that into consideration.

Gee, instead of flying you out, why didn't he fly in and meet your family? Having known him for a year and a half - didn't you think it was time?

ewww! ew ew ewww! sneaky bad bad girl.

The answer is no. It is not okay for either of you. If legal action is pursued by your parents (and I would if I was your Mother), he could have a lifelong record against him that would affect him the rest of his life - would affect him from being able to make a living, be promoted, in some cases, and could affect him in future relationships. It could be considered some type of "sex offender" since you are under age. This is becoming a very serious situation for legal authroities, and they are creating harsh punishments. A question I have is why would a 20-year old be interested in a 16 year old? This is something that is probably flattering to you, but you need to think about this; there is something wrong here. This 20 year old has something going on with him (in a negative sense) for him to be interested in a child, and I know it is hard for you to see, but you are still a child. You are not a baby, but you are not an Adult. The 4 years between 20 and 16 are vast - you change so much. It's yard for you to see this but you should be wary of someone that much older than you at this stage in life be interested in you. I think it shows maturity on your part to realize there is something not completely right with this.

Best wishes to you! Be careful - and enjoy be 16 - it will be history before you know it! And be strong to stay away from this guy - go after a 17 year old so that you can go to his Prom this Spring (what great memories).... woo-hoo ~ At 16, trying to figure out the "best" prom dress should be one of your biggest worries right now NOT worrying about a 20 year old. YOu will do the right thing. I can tell! :)

Statutory rape does not recognize state lines. It will only involve more police officials because of the state lines. You describe a situation that does not seem to have any good to ever come from it. Your rebellion can put this man in jail for a very long time. In some states you could be incarcerated as an incorrigible youth. Would you enjoy jail?

First of all... YOUR 16 have you ever heard the phrase 16 will get you 20. You are way too young to be messing with a guy that is 20. Not because of the age difference but because of the maturity difference. You don't need to cause him trouble and you sure don't need to be chancing YOUR future by disobeying your parents and the law.

its a shame society is so controlling and xenophobic that this would even have to be an issue. In nevada however 16 is legal so why doesn't he just meet you?

It would only be illegal if he was transporting you for sexual purposes, otherwise its still possible in California he can get contributing to the delinquency of a minor but only if he knew you were doing so without your parents permission, basically they would have had to tell him first.

The freedom of association is a constitutional right regardless of age.

16 is the legal age in Nevada. California is 18. If you two met in Nevada, its ok. Its Ok if he goes there on a date and nothing else. Since he's in California, he could get in trouble for certain activities that occur in Nevada. THe lawyers can argue that the he arrange certain activities in California via the Phone. My suggestion is to take it slow.

He can go to jail for indecency with a minor, have to register as a sex offender for 10 years - failure to do that is a felony, he can be forbidden all contact with you by any means and could go to jail if he does. Why not keep it an Internet thing for a year? At 17 the world changes for you.

Enticing a minor to cross a state line is a breach of the Mann Act, a serious felony. Your boyfriend risks being jailed for ten years or more.

It is against the law to molest minors in any state. He is a child molester.....you need to listen to your parents before you get in a real mess. Hopefully, your parents will keep an eye on the situation and have the jerk arrested if he bothers you anymore.

if he does anything more than hug you....it's called statutory rape by federal law... even if you want it

BUT
some states have age of consent as low as 16 so you might want to look into it.. and in some states that's okay as long as he's under 21..

between state and federal laws, it's hard to tell what they could charge him with...

BUT they CAN arrest him just for having you in his house

"Giving aid to a runaway instead of turning them in to the police is a crime called "harboring a runaway", and is typically a misdemeanor
