Did anyone see the new mobile phone ad showing a wife and husband chatting whilst husband is driving. What did you think of it? I thought it was nuts not showing how the husband crashed - no proof it was his fault for being on the mobile, nothing for mobile phone drivers to relate to etc. Anyone else got any views?

Emma, they've shown an awful lot more in 30 second ads in the past. What the 'drive at 30' ad where the little girl comes back to life - very powerful. I just thought this ad was a bit too abstract to get through to everyone.

I have see it and yes there is no proportion of who was to blame, but i think the idea was to make people realise what could happen while driving and talking on a mobile. OK that's make me sound like a real old grump, but as driving is part of my living, I have seen the distraction talking on the phone can cause, and no one in their right mind can be in favour of it, I have seen people just pull out of junctions, stall their cars, drift all over the road and not seen whats happening in front of them, all because they are too busy chatting away on their phones. I do think hands free is the better option than letting things carry on the way they were, but it does make you wonder what else the government will do in the interest of safety. I.E is lighting a cigarette a distraction ? changing a C.D. or eating a sweet ? yes they are, but this should at the discretion of the driver surly. But we elect the government to make these laws, and lets face it imaging if your child was ran over, just because someone was chatting away and not paying attention to their driving!!

Just the nanny state again. You drive a car you are a monster. We will make you feel guilty, but to ease the guilt you can pay us some more tax.I find the best thing to do when driving now,is to drive a automatic, and sellotape my hands to the steering wheel. Because as we all now know........... If you lift a hand away from the wheel, for more than a second, you will career out of control, and die in a fire ball. You monster you, yes...... you are also killing the planet so I will tax you for that as well.

Have to agree with Emma, but how can talking on a phone, hands free be any more distracting than talking to a passenger, or listening to the radio? They will ban smoking and eating sweets in cars next! far too distracting

yeah i saw it, i thought it was quite powerful but i think the point being made was if your talking on your mobile you can't possibly be concentrating on everything else on the road so therefore the guy with on the mobile caused the accident!!
but i did think the wife did'nt seem too happy to hear off her husband in the first place??
get an handsfree kit!!

It wasn't a soap or tv programme, it was an advert! You can only show so much in 30-40 seconds!

Hands free has to be the answer, its no more different than listening to radio, or are they going to ban that as well?
Yes it was a strong advert, but to the point.

I have not seen it but it sounds crazy to me especially at this time with the new laws. Someone needs their head looked at.
