Your mom's body is changing on the hormone front which is why she is so moody. It's a very difficult change to go thru just like when we first started our periods.

The previous poster made a good suggestion about trying to be understanding. Let her know that you are concerned and if you can't do that talk to a trusted adult friend or another female family member to see if they can be of some help.

Remember days when you feel super hormonal? Well, your mom is going through that! Menopause is no fun. The hot flashes, irritability, the emotional fluctuations and the lost of her fertile self is really hard on her body and mind. It's like puberty all over again but add daily stress, responsibilities and fatigue. Keep in mind this might be a bit out of her control. Talk to your mom about it. Tell her you know she's going through a tough time and you want to help. Make things clear with your mom and try to support her through this difficult time. Good communication and a little patience will go a long way.

Women in perimenopause often report a variety of cognitive (thinking) and/or emotional symptoms, including fatigue, memory problems, irritability, and rapid changes in mood. It is difficult to precisely determine exactly which behavioral symptoms are due directly to the hormonal changes of menopause. Research in this area has been difficult for many reasons. Emotional and cognitive symptoms are so common that it is sometimes difficult in a given woman to know if they are due to menopause. The night sweats that may occur during perimenopause can also contribute to feelings of tiredness and fatigue, which can have an effect on mood and cognitive performance. Finally, many women may be experiencing other life changes during the time of perimenopause or after menopause, such as stressful life events, that may also cause emotional symptoms.

Just know that she is like a depressed person right now. You have to be nice even when see is not. You have to do thinks for her to make her happy like do the dishes and wash some laundry. This will let her relax more. She is just very easily disturbed and she can't help it. Relax be nice and work with her. This is like loosing a close family member to her right now. Good luck!

Due to hormonal changes during menopause, women tend to be more irritable. Here are some tips:

1. Be more understanding
2. Encourage a healthy diet specially those rich in calcium.
3. Encourage your mom in sports or any other activity. Keeping her busy with things she enjoys doing keeps her mind off of the annoying changes that she's feeling.
