i've recently got myself a gecko from a neighbour with all its home light some crickets for food for £35! shes a leopard gecko and an amazing pet. leopard geckos are best for first time reptile owner as they very rarely bite and like to be handled. i've had mine for about two weeks now, and already she asks to come out. you could try looking in the free ads, because quite often people but these pets and get bored of them quick i don't know why they are fantastic. or any good reptile shop, and when you buy one, they will give you any good advice for that pet you buy. if you was just to type in leopard geckos on the web you will get options for gecko sites there. I hope you manage to get one, they really are great pets.

i also have just been given a leopard gecko at a very cheap price with all the bits and pieces needed from a neighbour. she is lovely and has bitten both of my children but they said it didn't hurt and she only bit them coz they were way to excited and were handling her ALOT. i also don't have alot of money but am prepared to lay out any expenses if needed. i have taken her to a wicked local reptile shop/man who confirmed that she was healthy but i had been given the wrong kind of tank but he also said it would do for now but i am changing it asap. i also went on any site i could and bought a book, its really important to know temperatures and what is safe in the tank. 1st good tip feed your crickets other wise they will die and also they will give your reptile no goodness. 2nd good tip if your gecko is going to be like my fat tailed then be carefull not to scare them to much or bang their tail coz this is where it stores it's fat and it will never grow back the same way. i really enjoy handling her and she is stunning to watch. good luck.

I have paid several prices for my leopard geckos. If your getting a leopard gecko then most people charge more for certian morps and more for a male. I recently bought 3 new ones for Petco. I paid $19.99 a piece for them. One was a super hypo tangerine, one was a mack snow, and the other a bananna blizzard. You will aso need a heat lamp $20.00. A food dish and a water dish $10.00. Calcium sand for the bottom of cage $10.00. A under the tank heater $20.00. Cave or rosks to hide in and under $20.00. And a cage to keep them in. I paid $119.00 for a 45 gallon long aquarium.

I agree with the first poster, if you're worried about cost, stay away from pets, especially reptiles.
If you decide you can spare the money, find a reptile expo in your area. You can usually find equipment and animals at a slightly reduced price as the shows are mainly breeder to breeder transactions.

You will need to lay out a little cash for you initial set up.
leoperd gecko
Tank
Heater pad
thermostat
Thermomometer
sand
food (crickets/waxworm)
light source
But once every thing ios set up they are fairly easy to keep.
I suggest you read everything you can find on the net before making your purchase

cant claim to be an expert on this subject but just thought i would say it is great to see someone asking advice BEFORE they get a pet.
there is a lot goes into keeping a reptile, food supplements, lighting, heating, etc.
i would advise getting a book or doing some internet research first

If you want a pet and are worried about the cost, then you can't afford it!
That said, reptilecentre.com is a good place to start your research.
