what is a leap year? I don't understand what it is. Is 2007 a leap year? when is the next leap year? How do leap year birthdays work?

Every four years another day is added to February. Usually there are 28 days in February, but on years divisible by 4 (but not by 400, just to make it really complicated), there are 29 days in February.

2007 is not a leap year, but 2008 will be.

The reason is to keep our calendar in synch with the earth's motion around the sun. Our calendar is an artificial way to tell tell time, and we try to make it align with the natural motion of the earth around the sun. We do this by adding a day every 4 years.

Hope this helps.
