A war is an armed fighting between two or more countries or groups.

A War against terrorism is a co-ordinated war that fights organized and hostile terror spreading all over the world.

However , the known War Against Terrorism is being mis-used to fulfill mean motives. Like, War Against Terrorism against Taliban and Al-Queda was cleverly mis-guided towards Iraq and now Iran.

War is just the act of it, war for the war, for loving to be in the middle of danger, to be feeling like a live running bullseye for some, for the sensation, for the job, for the thrill of doing it, not always for a reason.
War against terrorism is war with a goal: you know what the mission is all about, you know the meaning a bit more for it to occur, you know who you should point your gun at (hopefully) and you can have a more clear view of when it will end and in which conditions it will be mission failed or mission accomplished.

War is an armed conflict between countries.,whereas terrorism is the use of violence coupled with intimidation for political or religious purposes.War is declared or undeclared and is always between two countries and the treatment of prisoners of war is always guided by the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War Adopted on 12 August 1949 by the Diplomatic Conference for the establishment of International Conventions for the Protection of Victims of War, held in Geneva from 21 April to 12 August, 1949 which came into effect from 21-10-1950.
The treatment for those caught by terrorists ,for most of the time is inhuman and cruel death.

War is between two prepared parties to fight for a certain thing or place.

Terrorism is attacking innocent people to make their presence felt and force the Governments to consider their points, in a very barbaric way.

US attack on Afghanistan, & Iraq also is terror in a big, vast scenario. Terorists should be tackled and curbed like the way Sikh militants were dealt. Or like in Algeria..
USA will have to apologise for destroying the nations.

the war against terrorism is the cooperative, legitimate and organized effort of several nations to stop the cult actions of a relative few deranged and drugged up individuals.

terrorism is the promotion of random acts of violence toward general populations by those deranged and drugged up individuals. it by its very nature cancels out any chance of legitimacy and can never be condoned with any return of respect, sympathy or, co-operation.

There doesn't seem to be much difference between the two anymore. The US attacked countries which did not attack nor was any threat to it.
