I think you have an electrical problem with your kettle ,not a smell problem !!! Now quit using it your gonna burn the dam house down !!! Put a mug of water and tea bag in microwave like everyone else in the world .Or you can brew just water in your coffee pot if you're gonna want more than one cup so it'll already be hot when yor ready for it.

Try boiling it with water and vinegar. If that doesn't work, take it back to the store and consider buying a kettle that isn't stainless steel.

Don't take a risk-buy a new one. It isn't worth risking your life for the want of a new kettle. If it is a new one you have just bought i would take it back to the shop. You can get a kettle for £5. 45p in Tesco's
