Newt recently came out and admitted he was having an extramarital affair while he was leading the congressional effort to impeach Bill Clinton for the Lowinsky affair. Consevatives rushed to Newt's defense, saying Climton was impeached for lying not for having an affair and therefore, it was alright for Newt to have an affair. What do you think?
While it was technically true that Bill Clinton was impeached for perjury, not adultery, conservatives and republicans were smearing him big time based on morality, not on legality, as I recall. Even to this day, Clinton is being lambasted for the affair and not for having denied it (what with all the accusations about having degraded the office of the presidency etc...).
Are the conservatives/republicans a bunch of hypocrites or are they really right on this issue?

I hope US will be alot wiser and actually look into the backgrounds of upcoming hopefuls. It's easy with the Internet to see their voting history. Some prominent US govt figure got a DUI a few yrs back & that won't be 'leaked' to the PRESs.

From Salon - Newt's Glass House
...The most notorious incident in Gingrich's marriage -- first reported by David Osborne in Mother Jones magazine in 1984 -- was when he cornered Jackie in her hospital room where she was recovering from uterine cancer surgery and insisted on discussing the terms of the divorce he was seeking.
Shortly after that infamous encounter, Gingrich refused to pay his alimony and child-support payments. The First Baptist Church in his hometown had to take up a collection to support the family Gingrich had deserted.
The entire article is a must read. No one can defend Newt after reading this story. (Caution: the article's details get a little steamy. Who would have thought Newt was such a naughty boy?)

Moral high ground, republicans? You have got to be kidding. It's rhetoric, plain and simple, do as I say, not as I do. How many examples do we need from the Bush administration to show Americans they are no more moral than the people they condemn, like Clinton. It's been a parade of scandals since the republicans controlled all branches of government. People resigning in disgrace, going to prison, lying to grand jury's and showing a general disregard for the rule of law, moral indeed.

YES & they are dangerous. They have some seriously screwed up views. The US people are despised around the world because of them. As for Clinton...actually quite liked the guy. The Lewinsky thing showed he was human. He seems more personable & honest than that murdering psychopath Bush.

Noone has said Newt's affair was alright , & noone has denied his behavior was hypocritical.
As a Dem who voted for Bill twice tho , I was more upset w his BLATANT lieing. This wasn't a half truth mind you.....I DID NOT HAVE SEX W THAT WOMAN!!
Kind of reminds me of Rafael Palmeiro & his steroid declaration. I was disappointed that the leader of the free world didn't have the guts to own up to a sexual dalliance & put it behind him.
He essentially set Al Gore up for defeat in 2000. Trust me there is enough hypocracy to go around my friends.
Please stop before you cause our party further damage!! Please??!!
