What do you think are some reasons for the rising tensions between native born whites and new immigrants?

The elitist Republican leadership was looking for an issue to distract people from the war last year. they saw this one as an easy hit. Their base easily believes what their told without any proof. It should have been a simple matter to demonize illegal immigrants and start mass detentions.
It didn't work out that way. There has been a lot of grassroots activism by Hispanic and other groups in the past 15-20 years. They didn't want their relatives imprisoned and deported, especially if they have been living here for years as otherwise law abiding citizens.
The reaction to the Beltway elitist's campaign was record protests and strikes. And this is not a new problem.
What I wonder is why ew can't do more to improve life in Mexico to stop people coming here illegally to begin with.

because the majority get onto the free
welfare programs and the whites are
strongly discriminated against. I do not
believe one should be taking from our
country if you have not put into it, the
poor social security seniors are the ones
that suffer the most because the immgrants come and take so much of the funds alloted.
Stay in your country and work and use
what your country has for you, do not come to ours and abuse it as most do. I do give credit to those who work very hard, but for the
American way, but those are few and far
between. Most come in, get assistance and
sit home all day creating babies who become naturlized citizens and it should not be that way, if the parent is not a citizen and working their child should not receive the benefits. One must work for rewards and so many just rob our country blind. I blame our country for being so easy on letting these folks abuse the true American citiazen that works and pays taxes and trys to live by the right way of life, it is so written. But we look the other way and let
ourselves be literally raped financially and so
many bring drugs and guns and alot of other things with them. And the people who exploit their own and let them die in hot trailers or other devices cooked up to promise to get them to the USA and then take money knowing they will probably never make it and die are such evil doers. Then we have others who only come to bomb or poision our children and famalies and we put out a welcome mat.
That is just plain stupid.

There shouldn't be any tensions in the first place, because white or not, we're all immigrants.

But to answer your question, maybe it's the fear of something different from you, which leads to hate.

Because they are taking from the US people. They come here to work, don't pay taxes and send the money back home. I have to pay taxes, they should too. They get welfare and medicaid (free health insurance) and never have to pay a dime of it back to the government while most older white people struggle to get and pay for their medication every month. If I were to go to their country, would I get the same benefits they get here?? Hell no!!

Because overpopulation is a problem in Mexico and is now becoming a problem in the U.S.. I don't know if you've been outside of the U.S. but pretty much every other country sucks. Nobody wants to be like those other countries, especially Mexico.

I think there is a sinister subtext to your question. Unfortunately, when you say "new immigrants" you mean "black", "Hispanic" or "Asian" immigrants, not Polish or Italian immigrants.
