If you are using it for gaming, go the Core 2 Duo, without a doubt. It will cost more than the standard Pentium 4, but the Core 2 Duo's are said to run 40% faster than a Dual Core. basicly, with a Dual Core or a Core 2 Duo, you will not expirence slowdown or lag if you have another large application that starts up while you are in the middle os a game. But if you are upgrading to a Core 2 Duo, I would suggest 2 gigs of RAM (1 minimum) and nothing less that a 256mb Graphics Card, preferably a 512 or 768, but nothing less than a 256. I have an Nvidia 256 6200 in my wife's PC and it runs just fine for most anything she plays as far as games. Hope this helps.

See intel p4 is cheaper than core 2 duo. As p4 has single core and core 2 has dual core.
As far as efficiency is concerned, P4 3.06 is superb. But defenitely core 2 is more powerfull.
For extreem gaming core2 duo is preffered.
Though be sure , P4 wont let u down. Just manage 1 gb ram and see its power.

P4 is cheaper than Dcore 2 processor, but dual 2 is better fast in all p4 processors. and cost is also approximatly equal.
