Run the Microsoft Vista upgrade advisor. If you don't have a very strong pc, areas of Vista will be frustrating.

As for virus software, the free AVAST is nice.

not impossible but wouldn't run all that fantastic
It'll install with 512MB but any premium or advanced graphic features will be disabled. For the most part it will run ok....but it would be a good idea to double the ram.
(you'll also need a decent graphics card for the aero package as well)
