The basics should be covered for all citizens...and nourishment is a basic. Once we have that under contol, we can then move on to erradicating diseases that cripple our society. I think its shameful that America has starvation as an issue at all - 'Greatest Nation in the World' indeed!

Dear friend, both are very important simultaneously. You cannot make choices in such matters. Both Polio Eradication and Prevention of Deaths from Starvation should go parallel, because, only a healthy nation can stop prevention of deaths from starvation. Along with other reasons unhealthiness is also a reason for poverty and deaths from starvation. To find out the importance in between these two problems is not wise.

Both are important. It depends on the scheme. If you are going for prevention hunger death by giving food only, then people will not go for polio eradaication out of their own money. But if you provide employment and eradicate hunger death, people definately go for health schemes from their own money. In this case, Polio eradication will be done people while arrangement for livlihood is provided by the Govt. In the first case of providing food for idle people, I feel both the things are not required.

there is no choice between the two. both are equally important. if a child is inflicted with polio, he will need a lot of support from family & society to grow up normally & make a career, if he is not able to do so, it shall lead to poverty & then death from starvation. so they both need to be addressed together. neither of them can be given priority over the other.
