Well, since there are a bunch of things you can buy, here they are:
Sims Deluxe Edition: $20
Sims Double Deluxe: between $30 & $40
Sims Mega Deluxe: between $40 & $50
Sims Expansion Packs: All are $10, but if you buy a three-pack, it's $20. You're saving $10! And here are the expansion packs:

Sims 2:
The Sims 2 game is $40. Sims 2: Holiday Edition is also $40.

If you're talking about Sims 1, you can buy the entire collection, Sims1 and all the expansion packs, for under 35 bucks at Best Buy.
If you're talking about Sims 2, you can probably get it for about 20 to 30 bucks. The expansion pack are maybe 10 to 30 bucks depending on how old it is.
Of course, you do know that you have to have Sims 1 or Sims 2 in order to play their respective expansion packs.

I bought mine for $5 at Best Buy. It was on sale at the time, but I think you can find the game pretty cheap since its been out for so long.
Ebay is a great place to look for a decent copy of the game and its expansions.

prices are different every where you go...
....normally £27 for the sim2
but if you buy it via net or ebay then you can get it from anything from £10+
