Not in the slightest. America isn't such a free country like people think!

It doesn't surprise me at all, why should it? The war on terror, the war in Iraq, the Patriot Act, all a part of whatever the hidden agenda is behind the Bush administration. None of these things do anything positive for Americans, which leads me to believe there is another reason for their existence.

No. The Patriot Act gave law enforcement broad powers with little oversight. It was a signal that infringements on civil liberties were necessary to combat "terrorism". Some saw it as license to fish and as green light to abuse any suspect: to do whatever it took to make a case or get a confession to any kind of crime.

I figured this was a given, which was why this act was so vehemently criticized. The Patriot Act definately needs to have oversight. I don't care if FBI listens in on conversations, just that this act has others that over see it to ensure that there would be no abuses.

How did they misuse it for illegal spying? I have a friend who works for the D.E.A. I can remember him telling me that with the patriot act in place, it has been easier to catch all of these big-time drug dealers. I pretty sure he said his department could spy on these dealers more easily and faster now. OK, so drug dealers aren't technically international terrorist, but they are bad guys. And if the Patriot act makes it easier to put these guys behind bars then I have no objection to it's use to spy on these guys.
Is that what you call "illegal spying"? Because I see nothing illegal about it.

The Patriot Act not only makes it easy to put the bad buys behind bars, but coupled with the Military Commissions Act of 2006, it makes it easier to put YOU behind bars for anything they deem necessary and then not tell you why they are doing it.
Does it surprise me? No. It will only get worse. One day people will wake up and it'll hit them right square in the nose.

No. Whenever check and balances are weakened or non-existent, slip up and abuses usually results. So although I had hoped for a "no finding" report, I am not at all surprised by the AG finding of material violations and abuses.

You would have to prove what you just wrote before I could respond to your assertion. I believe that the FBI is on our side and not against us even though I have had my own financial status jeopardized by the FBI.

I've read some of the article pertaining to this topic that you bring up but I haven't read that they were illegally spying on things not related to terrorism. Can you please post the article you pulled this from? Thanks.

You ain't seen anything yet! With Karl Rove President there is NO end to dirty tricks.
But then again conservatives make no mistakes, do they?
Newt is not a hypocrite he says, but Clinton is!
Low end sophistry.
