It's like life. There are good answers & bad answers. They all count. If there weren't bad ones then we'd have no means of judging the good ones, no basis of comparison. If yahoo didn't provide an incentive to answer questions, then many wouldn't do it at all. Everyone brings something different to the table. This is like a microcosm of society. Some people just don't care & will say anything. Some are trying to be funny. Others are deliberately subversive. Some are sincere & genuinely trying to do their best. Having a wide range to choose from makes it more interesting.
Freedom of speech means that we all get to have our say, even though you may not like one some people are saying. Everyone counts.

Are you asking about the 2 points? Well, in that case your question is highly relevant... there must be a mechanism to see that irrelevant one word or one line response does not earn the 2 points...... no one will disagree, but the trouble starts in deciding how the judgement on the answer should be made so as to be acceptable to every one. As it is, the Best answer chosen by the voters or questioner often looks biased rather than objective assessment.

Maybe we should have the option to vote on which answers deserve points...
Length shouldn't be a determining factor - how many times have you seen answers which consist entirely of pasted tracts of the Bible (for example) which not only don't address the question but don't actually say anything at all?

I was always taught that no question should be viewed as poor or stupid. Every question deserves an answer. We're not all know it alls after all.
