Presumably there is an advantage in using the "race card".
So when some one uses the so called "race card", exactly what advantage are they gaining ?

I have read many answers and they don't fit with my perceptions.

"The Race Card" is played by someone who refers perhaps to a minority ethnic group in a popular but derogatory way, taking advantage of the resentment of the existance of that group.

Interesting question. From my perception, the race card, as you described it, is when a minority individual uses perceived societal indebtedness as a means to an end -- typically an end that favors the position of the minority individual.

Situations may include, but are not limited to, not getting a promotion/raise, being accused or charged with a crime, being the victim of a failed interpersonal relationship, or all manner of other things.

The key is "societal indebtedness" as why the "card" works. The history of the United States is filled with minority injustice, and though not as prevalent today, racism still exists in overt and covert forms. However, there is a sense of guilt which exists in todays society toward those minorities (whether that is actual, or spun guilt is up to you). The minority person uses his, or her status as a minority, and takes advantage of that guilt to gain favor the situations previously described.

What should be in debate here is not the "race card" so to speak, but in using the "race card" is the person actually gaining a true advantage, or are they just balancing the field back to the norm? Each situation and individual will differ.

Short answer: Playing the race card is when someone says they got arrested, didn't get a job etc, because they are of a certain race rather then admitting they were breaking the law or lacked the merits for the job. The two best examples of this low life entitlement behavior are Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. They show up on the scene like some sort of superhero and cause bigger problems than were originally there my playing the race card. Anytime you here someone say "Oh that only happened because I am black(or any other minority) and not because of something they did or didn't do. That is playing the race card. Basically it is someone trying to make something about race when it isn't. The bottom line is whenever you hear someone say something is based on race, do a little investigation on your own and you will almost always find there was another reason that person is not telling you about.

Aren't you glad I didn't type the long answer.

You don't get an advantage by playing the 'Race Card', it is something that other people accuse you of so that they don't have to answer the question that you are asking. For example...

Politician 1 "What is your policy on immigration?"
Politician 2 "I think that it's disgusting that instead of looking for solutions that you and your party constantly play the race card"
Arguement ensues, question is not answered.

You can only use the race card if you are from an ethnic minority, gay or disabled. So, for example, say you were caught causing criminal damage to someone's car and a scuffle started with four of five police officers because you tried to resist arrest. If you were white, off to jail you go. If you were black, gay, or disabled, you would be entitled to say that you were arrested because you were black, gay or disabled and not because you were simply breaking the law. That is using the race card. Of course, it is important to remember that not all people use the race card, only scum bags.

Certain individuals use it as a way of getting out of taking responsibility for their actions. It can be used by anyone of any race. Depends on the situation. It is used when people do not get their way. An individual can claim his/her race is being discriminated against at any given time.

O.J Simpson used the race card. Apparently, you can kill two people and get away with it if a cop says the word, "ni99er." Who knew?
