There are different perceptions of Trinity - the Xian belief says it is Father-Son-Holy Ghost... the Hindu would say it is the Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva.. and so forth..

The significance of these concepts are interpreted differently even within the believers - the holy texts themselves say in different tones in different contexts... and people do not have the wisdom to find what is actually coveyed by them...

I read a lecture of Shri Sathya Sai Baba (a celebrated spriritualist, philanthropist and social activist of south India) in which he says that we are three-in-one: the one that others think we are (the body), the one we think we are (our mind), the one we really are (the soul)... He exhorts us to realize the real "I" (the soul or Athma) and get rid of the illusions that we are body or the mind ...

The shasthras (scriptures) say that there are three subtle attributes (Gunas) ruling us, called sathwa (calm, compassionate and humble) rajas (egoistic and energetic) and thamas (ignorant, lethargy and sensuous)... The last is animal quality, the middle is evolving stage and the first is real human attribute paving the way for super human stage..

Instead of getting entangled in the endless exposition of these mysteries, we may simply try to live a life of "friend of all and enemy to none"... even if someone considers us as enemy we may not hate him for the ignorance but have only love for him too (as Jesus and Budha told).. Lord Rama says that he is resolved to help whoever approaches him regardless of the latter's worth / merit... Such love is divine and we should all endeavour to reach that level... The effort itself is purifying in nature and our minds would become less and less capable of committing sins..

Truth (sathya), righteousness (dharma) and Love (Prema) can be our spiritual trinity for progress and these would endow on us Peace (Shanthi) and Joy (Ananda), which no wealth or position / power can give to man!

...I can't help you with the mythological but God's Word from the original Hebrew text on the attributes of God are written already... In The Tanakh... Genesis, chapter 1... God, El Shaddi...God Almighty shows Himself quite clearly... also God, Elohim, God in the plural... and God the Spirit, the B'rit Hadashah... the Trinity... it's all there... in The Book. Great reading...
