I am nearly 38 weeks pregnant, my belly has dropped a while ago and I have been having period type cramps for about three weeks on and off. My cervix is soft and I am two cm's dialated. I am scheduled for an induction in 9 days but would prefer to have it naturally. Does anyone know how long these cramps and fake contractions last before labour starts.? I always thought that you do not start to dialate until you are actually in labour. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Labor with my second baby was very similar to what you describe. I was in the earliest stages of labor for almost three weeks before it finally started. Walk walk walk and have lots of sex. When you need to rest, do so. You can also squat holding onto the edge of the couch and bounce lightly. If the doc is going to induce you, try stimulating your nipples for about ten minutes (roll them lightly in your fingers and massage your breast while you do this) then wait for at lest 45 minutes and do it again. This releases oxytocin, the doctor will give you pitocin (a synthetic version of oxytocin) to induce you so go for it. Good luck.

You are at 2 cm - well, if you are lucky - within the next week.... but honestly it could be a wait. My friend was pregnant and at 2 cm for about a week and a half. Me on the other hand I had the cramping and labor pains for 2 weeks - never progressed past 1 cm and had a c-section.

i was in labor 8 hours or less with my first 3......my son i just had amonth ago i had contractions like that for 5 weeks and was 3 cm dilated for 3 weeks of that....so the answer to your question is...you will go in labor whenever that baby is good and ready and not a moment sooner lol

relax -it could be 2 weeks before labor begins. get to the hospital when the contractions are 3 minutes apart. until then, keep yourself occupied.

sorry, you can have those cramps for weeks,
i recently had my 4th child, and my others were early by 2weeks and one came on his due date, with my 4th i was booked in for 4days overdue, but i wanted to go natural, so 2 days before i was due to b induced i didnt sit down, i stood up all day, cleaned , vaccumed, shopped and walked, sure enough by 11pm, i felt a mild pain, then another, then by 5am my baby was born, it all happened within 6hrs, i reckon being on my feet all day brought my baby on, try it, my feet were swollen, but it was worth it. great luck to u
