The light first appeared on a thursday night. I plan on driving to Las Vegas tomorrow which is approximately a 4 1/2 drive. Everything runs fine at this point. Do you think it will be safe enough to make it there?

Your biggest concern will be to find out why the lamp lit. It is safe to continue driving the vehicle as long as the light isn't flashing. Stop by an auto parts store and see if they can scan it and tell you the fault, then you can determine if you should drive it or not. I've seen some people drive for years with the light on and the only problem with doing so is that you never know when a new problem has developed.

The check engine light is not a maintenance timer and won't come on to tell you to change the oil. Also, it is against Federal regulations to disable the check engine light.

The light could've came on for a reminder to get a oil check, or it could be something as bad as something needs to done to your transmition (which can be very costly). You definitely don't want to take a 4 and a half hour trip on a hunch that maybe it's just an oil check type of deal.

That would depend entirely on the reason for the check engine light, which you wouldn't know unless and until you have the system scanned. I wouldn't attempt a 4 and and half hour drive without knowing for sure.

maybe you could pass to a various AutoZone that has a scanner. If no longer, a sparkling code reader could fee you $70-$one hundred. you have have been given to pay somebody that plenty for a diagnostic besides, yet once you get your guy or woman gadget, the subsequent time you pick it, you have in basic terms paid for it as quickly as and could use it continuously. The broker could test it for you on account which you in basic terms have been given the motor vehicle so at the instant. the situation replaced into interior the motor vehicle once you acquire it. getting rid of the battery led to the motor vehicle to "forget approximately" the hassle and utilising ninety miles gave it a raffle to record the situation lower back. they could provide you a deal on the restore in the event that they bought the motor vehicle "as-is". additionally their duty is to document any regular problems on the time of sale. you will no longer have the potential to completely coach they knew relating to the situation and have been hiding it, whether it particular seems to me like they knew. the situation could be minor and ordinary to repair.
