Ayashi no Ceres (english: Ceres:Celestial Legend)
I would STRONGLY, STRONGLY recommend Fushigi Yuugi (english: Mysterious Play)
the basic summary makes it sound boring, but the show is hilarious and it's got action and romance and drama and evil and all that stuff in there too. And it's so easy to get hooked on...You can watch it on Youtube.com. if you want me to send you the episodes or something go ahead and email me cuz they can be hard to find at first. anyway, i'll include the summary of the first few episodes.
Miaka Yuuki, a less-than-average middle school student caught up in studying for exams, is sucked into an ancient Chinese novel titled "The Universe of Four Gods". There she discovers that she is in an ancient country in what is now China, Konan, and is to be the Priestess of one of the four gods, Suzaku. As the priestess, her duty is to gather the Seven Seishi of Suzaku, who are to be her protectors. Once they are gathered, the priestess will summon the god Suzaku and bring peace between the warring lands, Konan and Kutou. But it's harder than it seems. Along the road, many hardships are faced, as Miaka's best friend Yui Hongo enters the book and becomes her rival, the priestess of Seiryuu in the land of Kutou. Who summons their god first is up to the courage and skill of the priestesses and their seishi, as they meet triumphs and tragedies along the way.

Kyou Kara Maou!!!! Definitely a very funny anime. You will really love it. about a boy named Shibuya Yuuri who flush away through toilet to another world (Shimakoku/demon world). Then he met some people and claim that Yuuri is their King. Then yuuri get engaged with a boy too cause an accident with Wolfram. Relax, Yuuri is not a gay. he's normal.(if I not wrong its take 78 ep)
School Rumble. Very funny too. about a girl named Tenma who loves her classmates. But she is really stupid (idiot too???). She loves a boy who when rain always use kappa(god of river one of japanese tales) costume.
Gravitation. A gay anime (shonen-ai). About a singer (Shindou Shuichi) from Bad Luck band who loves the coolest novelist name Yuki Eiri. Funny and little complicated. It's a short anime. Of I not wrong it's just only 13 ep. With 1 OVA.

Dr. dokkiri(a light hearted comedy surrounding a crazy dr. trying to impress his childhood friend, miyuki.)
baby bachan(about a baby being possessed by her granny's spirit)
alice academy(alice=super powers. nice anime)

ranma 1/2(some people who turn into different creatures - one a cat, another a goose, a pig, a giant panda - when splashed with cold water. they turn back when splashed with hot water. the story is centered around ranma, the boy who turns into a girl)
