Somehow, over the last few years, I've become socially awkward. I feel very nervous in public places, awkward meeting new people and generally try to avoid social contact as much as possible.

I'm not even sure how this came about.

In any case, how should I get rid of this?

It's a catch 22: Being nervous and insecure makes it very difficult to make friends -> You cook in your own lonely and schizophrenic thoughts -> You become even more nervous, etc..

I'm certain that you will find out how this came about if you dig deep enough into your psyche. If you can't work it out for yourself and feel this is hindering your life, visit a professional. This happened to me, but I knew it to be a symptom of severe depression.

Maybe you have become too smart. It happens. People want to dress like trash and think Paris Hilton is the best singer of all time. They have also become more mean and stupid.

You should find a therapist and work on this as soon as possible. The last thing you want is to stay indoors because you can't deal with this.

Ask your friend to make you much more hyper and to be with you in public places.
