No, it's going to be like a Barry Zito situation where a small market team cannot compete with the big payday that is available elsewhere.

If Zito, a .500 pitcher with an average fastball and 1 good season, can get $12 million a year, Santana is good for $20 million a year, something the Twins cannot afford.

Honestly, I don't think so. I'm a huge twins fan would love to see Santana stay, but he's currently the best pitcher in all of MLB, and a small budget team, like the twins, cannot afford to keep such an amazing player. But Carl Pollad actually uses some of his 2.6 billion dollars, then we may be able to afford him, but as of right now, he's too good for the twins.

The only way the Twins will be able to keep him is to shovel out a big money, long term deal before July of this year. The Twins have yet to lock up some of their big stars, and the only way to keep any of them would be to lock them u long term way before they can hit the free agent market and teams like the Red Sox, Yankees and Cubs can throw out huge dollar amounts. Can the Twins keep Santana? Yes, if they lock him up soon. Will they? Probably not.

The Twins will. If they didn't have Santana, they wouldntve gone to the playoffs last year. When his contract does run out, lots of teams will go after him though

In a day and age of huge mega-million dollar deals, it's doubful if the Minnesota Twins will be able to keep him on the roster without it effecting the whole teams budget.
