Money and materials are definately the ultimate measure of success. They say you are successful if you own cars, houses and live luxuriously. They say you are successful if there is something to write home about, checkwise.99.9% you are deemed successful just because you have, not because you are kind or loving. Emotions/feelings dont amount to success, money, materials do.

Money and materials are the ultimate measure of success. They are perishable things and they weigh nothing compared to good honor and good reputation. Concrete love of God and neighbor expressed through generous service are the ultimate measure of success. At the end of life the ultimate questions are found in the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

It is the "sign" of success because, it is there for all to see. If you have a great house and lovely car the impression is, you are very successful. Success comes in many forms though, for some it is money and recognition, for others it is being an earth mother or travelling the world. Whatever floats your boat.

Others measure success in terms of personal development, whether that means in terms of body, mind, intellect or soul.

Becuase the body and all things related to it must perish, intelligent people seek success in areas that are not perishable. But you have to discover those areas first....

I know people who have more money than I but, in many ways I am richer than they are. Should success be based on the number of green certificates a person has?

It's all in the eye of the beholder. Sure many will look at money to calculate success, but others will look at how happy you are, if you've raised your children right to judge if they feel successful.

Not really. Success is best measured by the extent someone is missed after they die. Or hopefully appreciated while they are living. Money and material possessions usually are earmarks of a persons penchant for selfishness and greed.

Sadly yes, in societies where the one who dies with the most is seen as a winner.
To me, success is happiness and balance. And enough money to meet my needs.
