aw, i looove comfortably numb...all pink floyd, really but that's the top song.
As for eric clapton, i just like the piano exit to layla from goodfellas.

I say Hendrix, cause he's left handed, as am i, and it was really hard trying to learn backwards, let alone play like a maniac!
The only thing i can really still play is the first riffs to "Smoke on the water", LOL

As far as guitarist, I agree with you Eric Clapton is one of the top, I would also have to throw in the late Randy Rhoades, from the first two Ozzy Osbourne albums after Ozzy left Black Sabbath. Randy was a very melodic player with excellant chops. My other favorite guitarists are David Gilmour, Angus Young, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, and a new one that's even named himself after Steve Vai. This guy is Branden Vai, and for being 21 years old, is one of the best guitarists I've seen in a long time. For the best solo, I have a tie. They would be between Jimmy Page from Led Zepplin on "Stairway to Heaven", and the other would Randy Rhoades on Ozzy's ballad, "Goodby to Romance".

Kid, what will it take for you to understand there is no "best" or even "better?" What is your criterion? Speed? Originality? Chronological order? If you knew anything about music, you'd know this as well. Al DiMeola or John McLaughlin can, in terms of technique, precision & speed, eat all those guys alive for one breakfast. So can Satriani and Vai. Pat Metheny is a jazz guitar god, too, and none of those guys you list can even play any jazz.
And what will you do if you gather enough knuckleheads and you decide who is the best and what song is the best? Will you stop listening to everything else? Obviously, everything else will be inferios, so why bother? See how stupid the question is?

Oh - another giveaway that you're clueless - Axl Rose is not a guitarist.

I Like all the guitarists and they alll contributed to music, but guitar players vary in style, ability, technical knowledge. There unknown guitarists that just as good or better than the ones mentioned you never hear about. Guitarists, guitars, music is like mixing drinks or making food always a little different in flavor, taste, texture, etc. No greatest guitarist of all times in my opinion personally.

Going on your list, I would go for Slash for pure passion in the music and the style in which he plays. For technical playing, Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits is pretty damn good and, Nuno Bettencourt of the old band Extreme. He is a phenominal guitarist and, VERY technically capable.

Last but not least, my nomination for the best on-stage guitarist stance goes to Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society.....dude frikkin rocks out!!!

None of the above. My vote goes to Chet Atkins. Different style, I'll admit, but best guitar artist I've heard.
