This is the link where I've downloaded Avira for free http://bit.ly/1nDfqqe I heard many different opinions about the best anti-virus available on the market. I've been using Avira and works very perfectly! The latest version has a lot of new functions and gives a full protection of the computer! You can find a free download of Avira Antivirus here http://bit.ly/1nDfqqe

These are actually three different questions. :-) Let me answer them one-by-one.
1) No. Viruses for your home computer won't work on your phone. The phone uses a different operating system and a different microprocessor, meaning that it is not software-compatible with your PC. Theoretically, some cross-platform applications like Java could work on both, but in practice this is not the case. Not to mention that writing a successful virus in Java is practically impossible.
2) Yes, although it depends on what model mobile phone you use. There are viruses and other malicious programs specially designed to infect mobile phones (they don't work on PCs, of course). There are very few (and very stupid) viruses for mobile devices running PalmOS and Windows Mobile, so if your phone runs either of these operating systems (or uses a proprietary OS), you don't need to worry about viruses - at least not yet. If, however, your phone uses the Symbian S60 R2 operating system, then you do have to worry about it becoming infected. There are dozens of viruses and hundreds of Trojan horses for this particular kind of phones. The viruses replicate via Bluetooth, MMS and MMC card exchange.
3) There are no good free general-purpose anti-virus programs for Symbian phones. See below for a list of (mostly non-free) anti-virus products for this operating system. There are, however, free utilities that can remove only a specific virus. If your mobile phone actually gets infected with one, ask (specifying the name of the virus it is infected with) - and I'll direct you to some.

That is a good question, however the viruses that affect computers would not be able to affect phones due to different operating systems and phones do not carry executive files (.exe) that viruses can affect, while computers do.
however,
i have a blackberry, and in the settings, i have the option to turn on or off the firewall.
so maybe through messages and email?

I understand there may be a problem if it is a smartphone (i.e a pocket pc or N70 and so on, as they run on a version of windows. As far as 'normal' phones, such as a w800 or a d900, etc, I don't believe it's an issue to bother about. That said, I've not yet picked up anything nasty on the PDA and that hasn't got AV installed as I don't want to pay for it and I'd just re-boot it anyway if it did.
