Not sure what to look for. I have given it a tuneup, and still this dash light keeps coming on. I checked with a mechanic who said it was probably a faulty egr valve. before I fork out 75 dollars for a new one I looked it up to see what the symptoms were for a bad egr valve. My car has none of them. The engine runs perfectly fine. no pings, no loss of performance, just this dash light that keeps popping on. Any ideas what could be causing it?

See if they can put it on a diagnostic machine to test it and see where the problem is, so that you won't have to keep spending your hard earned money when they keep suggesting things it could be.

It may cost you about $75.00- $100.00 dollars to have it tested, but in the long run it may save you money by finding the problem faster.

I hope that this helps you to at least find a way to get to what the real problem is.

Good Luck, cars can be so terrific and yet so painful when problems arise. If you don't have the money to have it tested try a local college where they work on cars. The work could be done there at for just the cost of the parts and it would save you so much.

They will do a great job and all the work is supervised and certified as well. It becomes a win, win situation, you get your car fixed and the students get the benefit of learning.

God Bless you, I've been there my self I hope things get better. Good luck to you.

I would find a repair facility that can pull the code and find out what the problem might be. When your SES light comes on your vehicle send out a code to give technicians an idea of what is wrong. I think it is well worth it to spend $60 or so on a diagnosis from a Buick dealership so you don't "fix" the wrong thing, or not catch what might be a bigger problem and end up having to spend $6,000 on a new engine

hook up an OBD1 tester, count the blinks - that should tell you. if not, get a second opinion. i'm not sure on a vehicle that old, but i know on the newer ones you actually have to reset that light after the maintainence is done.

i would think that if there was something wrong with the egr valve they would have noted that when they did the tune up.

if its a egr valve its prolly clogged and u just have to remove it and unclog it with presure air etc. and bout the light, if u had a tuneup recently jsut reset the light wit a scanner.

don't worry about it...as long as you know everything is alright....as a mechanic...I used to remove the bulb. they are programmed to go on every 3500 miles (depending on the make). The EGR valve is actually bad for your engine.

the check engine light is really a jack-of-all-faults light

there is NO WAY to tell whats wrong without cecking the codes with a scanner.

Stop by autozone and borrow their scanner
