The number of Christians in Lebanon has been disputed for many years. There has been no official census in Lebanon since 1932. Many argue over the percentage and population of Christians in Lebanon. The most common estimate of Christianity in Lebanon is about 40-45%. It has the largest number of Christians of all the Arab nations.

This confessional system is based on 1932 census data which showed the Maronite Christians as having a substantial majority of the population, something which it no longer holds. THe Government of Lebanon continues to refuse to undertake a new census.

Thank you :)

Life gave a pretty good answer but I would like to add the following.

The last census was in 1932 and it is not likely that new ones be conducted.

This is a serious issue in Lebanon because it is related to the identity of Lebanon. It is in fact a taboo in the Lebanese life.

To cut a long story short, a census is of no real value because everyone can get from voters lists a good approximation of statistics on Lebanese sects.

Besides, I think that the Directorate of the General Security in Lebanon have detailed statistics.Once in the past we were doing some papers with them and they seemed to know the history of my family since like the early 1900's in great detail.

Hope this helps

None will be done as long as confessionalism is ruling in Lebanon.

It will not be shown now, you have to wait till the deadlock is over in Lebanon to become more clear.
