Ok. I am trying to install Windows XP to a labtop but I am sort of stuck. This is the question:

Can I install the Windows XP on the same PARTITION?
The labtop only has ONE PARTITION. At this moment the computer says this:

You chose to install Windows XP on a partition that contains another operating system. Installing Windows XP on this partition might cause the other operating system to function improperly.

What should I do? Should I continue or should I create another partition and install Windows XP on it?

From the question itself, I understood that in the only one partition, you have already installed one operating system. If you want to install XP, you have three choices.

(1)You can boot into the earlier operating system and can upgrade it into XP.If you do in this way you will not lose any data and programs.(Recommended)

(2)You can boot from the XP CD and can install XP.You said that a message is displayed like the one you have given in the question. You can continue from that step and format the partition and install XP.But you will lose all the data in the partition.

(3)You can boot from XP CD and install. While install, they will ask for the partition to install XP.You can delete the existing partition by pressing 'D' and can make two partitions and can install XP in any one partition. But you will lose all the data in your hard disk.

I recommend the first step as you can prevent the lose of data.

I think now you understood.Best of luck from JONNAN.
