I own an automatic transmission Toyota Corolla. What do I do if I come to know that my brakes are not working when the car is cruising at a high speed??

That's an accident waiting to happen! Take it to a mechanic. Now. Drive slowly!

Ahh, That sounds frighteningly familiar, What I recommend is:

1- If It was an emergency, and it means your life, Shift to reverse, That will fry your gear box, but it will save your life " Prepare to a rough stop".

2- If it happened and on an open road, with time/distance to maneuver, just shift to Neutral, and let it die off.

3- Side brakes "Hand Brakes" in high speed and in a Corolla, will get you in trouble, might even flip the car.

Stay safe, and pay a visit to the shop!

Don't turn off the ignition, you will lose your power steering, put your shift into a lower gear D2 if available on your car then use the hand brake, if you have any doubt about your brakes, get them checked.
