I was standing by my car with my two ferrets. My husband was about to cross the road to get to me and the ferrets. Then I saw a beautiful owl with a fluffy white face and a brown body. The owl was flying towards the ferrets. I knew he was trying to snatch them up, to eat them, but he could not get them, and kept flying in the opposite direction of the road I was travelling on. (opposite direction my car was facing and I had been facing). For some reason, I still thought it was great to be able to see this bird. I was excited about seeing him, sensing that there was some good fortune because I saw him. I pointed it out to my husband as it was flying away, and he didnt see it at first, but eventually did. I told my husband it was a "snow owl". I did not know that such an owl existed until after I awoke... I asked my husband if there was such thing as a "snow owl" and he told me that there was and it was called a snowy owl. What does this mean?

Different cultures have different opinions on the place of the owl in mythology. Some believe:

"the mournful call of an owl is thought to predict the death of somebody living in the neighbourhood. Such superstitions caused a minor disturbance when an owl showed up at Romanian President's residence, Cotroceni Palace."

It could be you are/were worried about your ferrets and that the owl symbolized the sickness coming to take them away from you. Of course, if your ferrets symbolize something or someone close to you, it could be that you dreamt that they were in 'danger' but your presence is what kept them away. The reason why your husband saw the owl 'afterwards' was because he did not see or understand your point of view until after the incident had passed.

Something else to note about snowy owls, according to wikipedia:

"This powerful bird relies primarily on lemmings and other rodents for food, but at times when these prey are not available...they may switch to ptarmigan young. As opportunistic hunters, they feed on a wide variety of small mammals and birds, and will take advantage of larger prey, frequently following traplines to find food."

The owl could represent an opportunity that is more harmful (or you think is harmful) to you than beneficial (threat to your ferrets) although you will still marvel at its passing.

One other note: Harry Potter's pet Hedwig is a snowy owl, as portrayed in the HP movies, so it could be that you have subconsciously heard about the owl before but never consciously recognized it.
