how does the US GPA translate into 1:1, 2:1, and 2:2? Can anyone give a breakdown of GPA into the UK (English) categories.

officially it's usually like this:

4.0 is 1:1 (A)
3.0 is 2:1 (B)
2.0 is 2:2 (C)
1.0 is 3 (D)

However, realistically an American C is more like a 3. after 3rd class degree, you have a pass degree (also known as unclassified). That technically should be equivalent to a D, but it's not when you transfer.

Having a British degree myself, I'm kind of happy that it's messed up in the favor of British degrees. But degrees here are only three years and much easier to get, it's rather amusing really.
