About Evanescence?

A friend and I are having an argument. She says Evanescence is mainstream and I say definetly, definetly not. What do you think?

not talking about anything underground at all. i know they're known. and playing it on tv and radio im pretty sure its not mainstream. because think about classic rock, they play that don't they? and some of those people are dead. also, she says they're "pop" and unoriginal which is complerely ridiculous.

and the whole point is that they weren't mainstream before they were played on mtv so why the hell should that make them mainstream? thats completely unethical.

They are 100% mainstream. If you win grammy you are mainstream.

They play it on TV. It's mainstream. It's certainly NOT underground.

Mainstream is ANYTHING you see on TV, like Good Charlotte, Fall out boy, My chemical romance, ect.

Underground are most bands that you've probably never heard of.

When someone is listening to something you've never heard of and you go 'who's that' and they say bladeblah, oh they've been around for ages, that band is usually underground.

i think they are quite mainstream.....lots of play on the radio + music videos in constant rotation on mtv = mainstream

edit: mainstream definition is this according to msn encarta.... the ideas, actions, and values that are most widely accepted by a group or society, e.g. in politics, fashion, or music.
this means that it's widely accepted/well-known/popular....not necessarily that it's new and/or unoriginal

I don't think Evanescence is mainstream. There's not really a category you can put them in, so I just call it The Evanescence Genre. Has a nice ring to it.

If it helps, they used to be "underground", or at least not mainstream.

Then MTV got their dirty hands on them. Now every girl & her chihuahua are listening to 'Lithium', or rambling to their girlfriends about how 'Call me When You're Sober' about "totally about dem an' der man, y'know?"
