I have used both PC and Mac. Macs definitely have a lot of advantages over PCs: much more user friendly, better technical support, they are not as heavy as PCs. Therefore easier to take a laptop computer with you when traveling. Battery life is definitely longer. Real advantage of a Mac compare to PC is that you can close the computer without shutting it down and leave any document opened.
They have a lot of more options. It is also possible to use new Macs both as PC or Mac computers. Most of the programs have become cross platform which means you can open documents both on PC and MAC without conversion.
Macs are more stabile and are less attacked by hackers.

All depend what you are going to use the pc for.
Make a list of EVERYTHING you will consider doing on your pc then you have some grounds to work from.
If , for example , you want internet. email and basic office work then Linux is probably the best choice - Ubuntu for first time users , maybe OpenSuSE , heaps of variations.
If you want to play the latest games , then Windows is the only way to go - XP not Vista as too much incompatability for now.
Macs have a range of software that is unique to them.
For myself , I currently run 6 pcs at home. One is on the net all the time ie 24/7 and runs OpenSuSE 10.2. This pc does everything I generally would need to do - web surfing , email , office work , burning DVD/CDs , music , photo editing.
It is great as being Linux , I don't worry about viruses , trojans or spyware as nothing affects it - with Windows you need to run multiple programs to try and protect your pc.
My other pcs are currently running XP Pro as a test 3D animation render farm - but will be trialling Red Hat for this in a week or so - would prefer to move right away from Windows as I really need the stability of Linux and don't have to worry about Windows crashing as it is prone to do at times.
I also have one mega pc - dual 3Ghz dual core Xeons with 2GB ram that is used only for gaming - Windows of course.
But as I first stated , make a list . EG If you HAVE to run Autocad say , then you are limited by that choice.

depends on how you want to use it. If you want to use the computer mainly for digital media, I would go with the Mac. But if you are using it for business or for internet and e-mail, I would go with a Windows based PC.
