Lord of the Rings in my opinion. CGI monsters and battles are all very well, but CGI Gollum really impressed me, a creepy nasty messed up chap and CGI did a great job in achieving that effect.

i think Return of the king, if the CGI didnt work it would have ruined the whole thing but it went on to win best film at the oscars

For me it's tie between The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings Trilogies. The special effects of them both seem so real to me. And believe me, I've watched them both a million times and it never gets old.
