Combustion or burning is a complex sequence of exothermic chemical reactions (reactions that release energy to the surrounding) between a fuel (like C6H12O6 glucose) and an oxidant ( such as Oxygen) accompanied by the production of heat or both heat and light in the form of either a glow or flames.

combustion is the burning of matter. Matter can be in a solid liquid or gaseous form. An example of combustion in a solid form is the burning of a paper whereas gasoline can combust in the liquid state and propane combust in a gaseous state. Combustion requires an excess amount of oxygen to occur. Without oxygen combustion cannot occur. Therefore a more concentrated definition of combustion would be the burning of matter in the presence of oxygen. When matter burns in an excess amount of oxygen the flame will be blue however if the amount of oxygen is low the flame may be yellow. A good illustration of combustion cn be obsrved here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b6xQ05nwzaw combustion results in energy.

rapid chemical reaction between substances that is usually accompanied by generation of heat and light in the form of flame. In most cases, oxygen comprises one of the reactants. Other physical phenomena that sometimes occur during combustion reactions are explosion and detonation.
