If they don't appreciate the fact that you are attempting to improve your position in life, they are not good friends. My previous statement assumes you are not making a stupid move.

As a side note, make sure you secure a new job before you quit the one you presently have. As long as you are presently working, you are bargaining from a position of power. If you can't land a new job on your terms, you are still looking, and have nothing to loose. If you don't have a job, your future employer has the position of power. You will be more desperate, and might be forced to take a position you really don't want.

Excactly why would they feel this way??

Ask them! Where you are applying, the conditions may be poor and they have a big turnover. Perhaps some of your friends worked there. Ask, " what is your reason for disapproving of my intent."

I once had a job offer, mentioned it to a friend, and after listening to him, I turned it down. Seems the manager liked to fire people.

Are their reasons selfish or do they think you are making a big mistake and are just looking out for you. Evaluate and see whether or not they are offering solid advice. Ultimately it is up to you...job satisfaction is very important. Too many people stay in jobs they are unhappy with. Look around and you'll find your passion eventually.

You are the one stuck at work all day. you need to like it, do what makes your stress level low, just don't quit your job untill the other one is secure.

no, your friends and neighbor won't help pay the bills. Life is all about the choices that you make. If they can't accept that fact then they can pay your bills.
