My theory has always been, if you have a job, do it as well and efficiently as you can.

If you don't want the job, quit.

But doing a good job on an unpleasant job, will be noticed by higher up people. and you will be thought of when more important jobs come along.

I think that doing unpleasant jobs and working hard will pay off, so that you don't have to do unpleasant jobs later on, and will be able to relax every once in a while. Plus, after doing an unpleasant job (such as draining porter potties :S ), any other job will come easily.
