I frequently have problems sleeping and here are some tricks I've learned:
-warm glass of milk (ick....not my preferred choice)
-glass of brandy or sherry (not reccommended if you're underage, obviously)
-read a boring book
-take a sleeping aid....this isn't addictive if you only use it once in a while
-if you don't have a sleep aid, benedryl or any allergy meds that you might have that normally make you groggy or drowsy will work in a pinch.
-stay away from computers and tv....
-obviously no caffiene but also no chocolate! It can also keep some people up.
Good Luck

i have the same problem from time to time. What sucks is Ill toss and turn until its time to get up and then I start to doze off.
So you may try to focus on something other than the need to sleep. Play some soft music or watch a mellow movie. Sometimes if you exercise about an hour or more before your bedtime its easier to doze off or what works very well for me is 20 minutes in the hot tub. I sleep like a baby. Good luck.

There's a lot of reason why a person can't sleep at night.
First of all check your diet, make sure you don't take anything that contains caffeine (coffee, tea, chocalate) during late evening. Smoking can act as stimulants, so don't smoke during late evening or better still quit smoking.
Avoid taking naps in the afternoon, avoid irregular sleeping hours.
Relax in a hot tub if you have one, or just take a hot bath 1 hour before bedtime.
Worst scenario you might be having sleep disorders just as 40% of the people do. Go and consult doctors.
There's tons of tips available from the net, just google with the word 'better sleep'.
I did alot of research myself because I have similar problems too. Good luck to you ;)

I have heard that in order to sleep well the only thing you should ever do in your bed is sleep. Like, dont sit in bed and read a book or watch tv, play w/ your laptop, etc. This way your body gets trained so that whenever you get in bed your body knows its time to sleep. Hope this helps!

I have bouts every now and then when I just can't seem to fall asleep. sounds like this is your problem today. So try this...
lay in your bed, elevate your feet but keep your head neck and back in alignment. close your eyes. make sure you are covered with your normal blankets. breathe. deeply. focus on the movement and rhythm of the breath coming into your body and then going out of your body. envision the tension in your body as blue.. now envision that blue leaving your body with the exhale. continue breathing deeply in this manor. you will feel your body relax slowly after a few minutes. the key is to focus on your breathing so your body relaxes and goes to sleep.
this works for me every night. sleep tight

Turn the lights off, play smooth soothing sounds and lay down in your bed and that should help. Just relax and clear your head and that should help.
