Hey guys Ive been doing alot of research lately on game programming and i was wondering if I could get some advice from anyone here. My first question is what language should I tackle first? I know that C++ is way off but should I start with C or C# possibly another. The ideal language would be one that I do not have to pay some company money to get their software to use it. ( I know this kinda takes C# out of the running. Does anyone have any advice on where to start or could you recomend any good tutorials or books. Any advice is great.

I have been a Video Game programmer for several years now and have studied making different games in Dark Basic Professional. I would suggest using this language because it is easy to use and you can apply a lot of the C++ concepts using this language. Also it is an extendable language, so you can make commands using C++ and be able to use them in the language.

I have been working on a full Video Game Engine and it is turning out really nicely. The engine uses Dark Basic Professional and visual basic.net. Everything is click and create and I have several tutorials and 100's of new commands to make the development process a whole lot easier.

Check out the main site for getting Dark Basic Professional:

Also check out my site for my Video Game Engine called Dark World:

I think XNA would be a good starting point.... And XNA is free and you can also get the C# IDE and compiler for free from Microsoft site..... Try getting the Express edition of the C# IDE and then download and install XNA. You have coding4fun website for tutorials
