my sister mia is 16. this is her third runaway. she has always come home after about a week. she took my 15 year old sister lise with her this time. they have called our relatives to relay a message to my parents that they are ok and they are not coming home. they gave a stupid reason. they say they are sick of cleaning their rooms. thats why they ran away. we have an idea of where they are, but my parents are leaving the situation in the laws hands. they want the police to get them. the police are going to go when they are sure that they are going to be there. but what are the police going to do when they catch them? are they just going to bring them home, and they will run away again the next day? thanks for your concern if you have read this far. please help.

this might sound bad, but i think juvie would be a good option. there are 13 siblings in my family. i am 20 and still live at home. my brother is 21 and he lives here too. we both want to go our seperate ways and get on with our lives, but my parents cannot handle all of this. i think if they were in juvie, it might straighten them out enough for me to go to college. my parents beg me to stay here and help, but i want to go to school. i am so frustrated!

This is a section of the Hawaii Revised Statutes (the state law) on runaways;

§571-48 Decree, if informal adjustment or diversion to a private or community agency or program has not been effected. When a minor is found by the court to come within section 571-11, the court shall so decree and in its decree shall make a finding of the facts upon which the court exercises its jurisdiction over the minor. Upon the decree the court, by order duly entered, shall proceed as follows:

(1) As to a child adjudicated under section 571-11(1):

(A) The court may place the child on probation:

(i) In the child's own home; or

(ii) In the custody of a suitable person or facility elsewhere, upon conditions determined by the court.

When conditions of probation include incarceration in a youth correctional facility, the incarceration shall be for a term not to exceed one year, after which time the person shall be allowed to reside in the community subject to additional conditions as may be imposed by the court;

(B) The court may vest legal custody of the child, after prior consultation with the agency or institution, in a Hawaii youth correctional facility, in a local public agency or institution, or in any private institution or agency authorized by the court to care for children; or place the child in a private home.

They very well could end up in juvie, depending on what state you live in. The other option is they are sent home, if the state laws don't permit juvenile incarceration for runaways, or if the judge is having a good day and feels particularly lenient.

By the way, contrary to another answer, you cannot just have them move in with you only because you are 18 and happen to be related. Your parents have custody, unless the state takes custody away from them by judicial action.

run aways can be put in detention. I was threatened with that when i was younger. I had a lot of runaway charges against me, it is referred to as incorrigible. I ended up going through the diversion board which is like court they give you community service and it's like probation. If you fulfill the requirements then it is not put on your permanent record.

You are at the legal age , you can get a job and get out and let your other 2 sis. move in with you to keep them out of foster care.
U are in the USA and u have rights, u are over 18.
Your sisters may be put in foster care if your parents approve of it.
As long as they go to school, they should just stay home or stay with you.

more than likely they will just bring them home. however there are programs that they can be put into to straighten them out. the police may suggest this to your parents. if not then maybe you should.

No they cant be put in a juvinille detention centre for running away. The police can only bring them home unless they break the law and do something bad enough to have them locked up.
Dont worry.
I hope your sisters come home soon :)

absolutly, they will lock them up and let them get a taste of what it is really like to be grown and having to pay for your own crimes and having to deal with what they do and not getting mom and dad to bail them out. that is what they need to put a good scare into them.
